Once again the Colonial Players are putting on what is bound to be another magnificent production. The play, originally a book, is called The Westing Game. The play will be held in Plymouth Whitemarsh High School’s auditorium. Opening night is on Thursday, November 19th but there is a special student showing on Monday the 16th with a student discount included.
“Opening night has a nerve-wracking, yet fulfilling, energy to it,” says Cole Walther, who plays Sandy McSouthers. “It’s going to be a great show,” says Sean Gallagher, who plays Otis Amber. As you can tell, the cast is very excited for the play and it is definitely going to be a show to remember.
The Westing Game is a compelling murder-mystery about 16 heirs who are mysteriously chosen to live at Sunset Towers apartment building. They come together to hear the will of a self-made millionaire, Samuel W. Westing. The heirs are divided into eight pairs, each trying to figure out the mystery of who murdered Sam Westing. To play the game, each player is given $10,000 to start with and a set of clues. Whoever wins will inherit Sam Westing’s $200 million fortune and his company, Westing Paper Products. All of the actors and actresses have something to offer in bringing their characters and this show alive.

The actors and actresses are all very determined and dedicated! They will not let anything ruin their show. As Lauren Quigley, who plays Angela Wexler, says, “I spend the couple months before the show doing things that I think my character would do. So I figured out that I don’t think Angela would eat dairy so I haven’t been eating dairy for the past couple months. I wear clothes that I think Angela would wear, like I think Angela would wear a dress.” If this doesn’t show dedication, then I don’t know what does!
When to See
The Westing Game: November 16, 2015 at 7:00 PM ($5 tickets with student ID) November 19-21, 2015 at 7:30 PM ($10 tickets) |
Another aspect that ties in with making this a great play is the remarkable chemistry among all of the cast. Many of the actors and actresses have performed other plays with Colonial Players and are willing to try out no matter what the show is. Sean Gallagher so warmly puts it, “I’ve worked with Colonial Players before and I love doing it. It’s a little family here.” How sweet! It seems like this feeling is shared among all the actors and actresses. Sara Yuter, who plays Turtle Wexler, says, “Regardless of which show they did I would want to do it.”
From the way this tight-knit family is working, I cannot wait to see what will be an amazing production of The Westing Game.
